Chitwan Chepang Hill Trek

Chitwan Chepang Hill Trek

Chepang ethnic community is one of the most isolated tribal groups of Nepal. Some of them inhabit the valleys washed by the Male Khila River, in the mid-region of the Mahabharat Mountains. The altitude of this region is between 4,000 to 6,500 feet above sea level, producing a cool and pleasant climate in the summer and a chilly climate in the winter.

There is newly discovered trekking trail named for the identity of the local tribal people Chepang who used to hav nomadic lives before 2oth century. Although they are no longer a nomadic tribe, the Chepang still maintain their own separate and unique tribal identity. Chepang Hill Trail Trek starts from Hugdi Khola (Hugdi river) along the Prithvi Highway and ascends to the Chepang settlement in Chitwan district. Then the trekking descends to Shaktikhor near Chitwan National Park. From there you have next interesting option- extend your trip to Chitwan National Park. Those who seek varieties of adventures and joys in their trip are recommended the following sequences from Kathmandu: Take a bus to Charaundi – Rafting in Trisuli river till Hugdi River – and then trekking uphill in the Chepang Hill trail and visit Chitwan National park.
