Sagarmatha National Park (officially gazetted in 1976) enclosed by the Everest region (Upper Khumbu) is the world’s highest altitude national park, listed as a world heritage site. The Everest or the Upper Khumbu region closes within its fold the highest wildlife reserve in the world, the Sagarmatha National Park. This park has been listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. It has gained its popularity in preserving high altitude plants and animals. The number of people visiting the national park is rising steadily from 5,000 visitors in 1981, 10,000 in 1990, 17,000 in 2000 and approximately 25,000 visitors in 2008 (McGuinness J., 2009).

This trekking route is relatively easier. After you land on lukla airport from kathmandu, you’ll have short trek to namche bazaar. Then you reach to tyanboche where there is a very popular tengboche monastry. Situated at 3,867 metre (12, 687 ft.), the monastry is the largest gompa in the khumbu region. The monastry was built in 1916 by lama guru with significant link with the tibetan monastry named “rongbuk monastry”. You reach the khumjung village, cetury old sherpa settlement, a dense himalayan village. You will realize the full culture, tradition and history of the popular sherpas of nepal.
