Tibet with its vast landscapes from the verdant forest to the arid dry moonscapes is huddled in the rain shadow behind the mass range of the northern Himalaya. This land is as mysterious today as it was centuries ago.

It still retains the feel of the medieval period and a tinge of Shangri-la. This land that has an average altitude of over 3000 meter has opened its "Mighty doors" to the rest of mankind and offers the curious seeker an experience of a lifestyle, culture and landscape like no other. This journey of a life time on the roof of the world crossing over passes at over 5000 meters, with stunning, breathe taking views of snow capped mountains like Mt.Everest, Cho-Oyu, Shisa-pangma and other 6000 meter plus peaks. We will encounter forsets and arid landscapes, tradional rural villages, their people, Buddhist monasteries and much more.

After our 2 day stay in Lhasa we will journey through traditional Tibetan villages and nomadic camps, with a constant view of the close snow capped peaks, as we head towards Everest Base Camp via Lamna-la (Pangla-pass) at 5,100m and Rongbuk Monastery. The trek from Old Tingri to Everest BC is one of the highlights of this great trip. This trail from here is seldom frequented and most visitors take the comfort of four wheel drives to Rongbuk. The trek from here passes by the rural life of the Tibetans that has not changed for centuries;most of the houses and villages are still untouched by modern civilization even though now-a-days vehicles pass through these villages quite frequently on the way to Base Camp. Our journey continues to the highest monastery on earth at Rongbuk, then through the large village of Lunja, over high passes until we reach our destination, Everest Base Camp at 5,200m. There we will have ample time to explore around its glacier and take in the magnificent view of the other nearby peaks.

Day 02: A day in KATHMANDU
After your first night in Kathmandu you get a half day guided sightseeing tour of Kathmandu. If your flight arrival is too late in the day we will do this tour in the afternoon instead of morning to give you a nice rest before you adventure begins.

Day 03: Fly from KATHMANDU to LHASA (3,650M)
After an early morning breakfast you will be transferred from the hotel to the International Airport; a short drive of 20-30 minutes; and after the necessary security formalities (keep your pen-knife-lighter-matches and other sharp cutting items including scissors in the bigger baggage not in hand bags) board the large Boeing 757 Air China for the sweeping panoramic flight to Tibet. On arrival you will be received at the Gongar Airport by our Tibetan counterpart. A less than two hours drive brings to Lhasa and to the best Lhasa's hotels. Afternoon free for walk around the Market Square near Barkhor.

Day 04-5: In LHASA.
Guided tour in Lhasa. IN LHASA you will find yourself engrossed in sightseeing and there will be excursions to the JORKHANG TEMPLE, BARKHOR MARKET SQUARE,POTALA PALACE, NORBULINGKHA PALACE, SERA & DREPUNG MONASTERY. Tour the fabled City of Lhasa. A completely forbidden City until very recent times. Lhasa was the Holy Grail for many central Asian explorers of past generations. The City has of course been altered by the Chinese occupation and the impact of foreign visitors. However much of the original character remains and whilst jostling through the Potala with crowds of ethnic Tibetans, it is hard not to be captivated by this magnificent civilization. We will visit the great monasteries of Sera and Drepung, both of which were extensively destroyed in the cultural revolution but are now being rebuilt. Visit the Jokhang and of course the Potala Palace. Lhasa is at 3,600m/12,000ft and provides an ideal acclimation for the rest of the journey. And the comfortable hotel will give our members some time to get to know each other.

Day 06: Drive to GYANTSE. ( 3,950m) - 261 kms.
Morning drive to Gyantse, the drive leads to the scenic highway past the Khamba-la at 4,800m and towards the Yamdrok Thso (The Turquoise lake) and then towards Karo-La at 5,050m overlooking the Nazong-Khangtsa peak and its massive ice face just off the road. After this great drive of five hours we will reach Gyantse for the overnight halt. At Gyantse we have time to visit Phalkor Monastery , Kumbum Stupa and the local market. Afternoon Sightseeing of Kumbum Monastery if time permits or else, we can do it the next morning before heading to Shigatse.

Day 07: Drive from GYANTSE to SHIGATSE (3,900M) 90 KMS.
This is about two hours driving and when in Shigatse we will visit the very large complex of Tashilumpo monastery. This is the traditional residence of the Panchen Lama and contains a 27m high gold plated Buddha known as Matria (the future Buddha). The hotel in Shigtase is quite large and comfortable. Afternoon sightseeing of Tashilumpo monastery and the local market.

Day 08: Drive SHIGATSE to SHEGAR. 4,350m. 4-5 hrs journey.
We travel from Shigtse to New Tingri or Shegar. The drive is on the main Kathmandu / Lhasa highway and this road has been improved over past few years. Again crossing two high passes we dive through the town of Larze where the road to Mt.Kailash intersects. After Larze the drive climbs to the highest pass on our journey, Gyamshola Pass, 5,220m. After the pass we reach Shegar for the overnight stop. Afternoon. optional visit of the nearby monastery perched on the high cliff.

Day 09: Drive to RONGBUK 4,950M and to EVEREST BC 5,200M 5-6 hrs.
Our journey continues to Old Tingri, where you will have the good view of Everest (8,848m) & Cho-Oyu (8,201m). Tingri is a wind blown village with more than a hundred houses grouped along the base of an isolated hill. Its original name used to be Ganggar. Most of the good lodging and restaurants are available are on the roadside, which it is a must stop for all the trucks and other vehicle drivers and passengers for lunch and overnight halt. From here the drive is mainly on a dirt track passing through a few isolated villages and nomad camps.

Rongbuk Gompa and its many hermitage retreats were introduced to the world in the 1920's through the account of the 1st British expedition team of George and Irving Mallory and from the well-known novel Lost Horizon by James Hilton. At present most of the retreat cells are abandoned and there is only a few small monasteries scattered at this end of the valley are functioning. According to the Rimpoche of this area; the monasteries were first established around 250 to 350 years ago. From Rongbuk it is a short drive of 20-30 minutes to Everest Base Camp.

On reaching Rongbuk there is a great view of Mt.Everest or Chomolungma in Tibetan; a little after here vehicles are restricted and from the check post, we will transfer on the horse cart for 20-30 minute ride to the Base Camp. After a time here we will return back to our Landcruiser and continue the drive to Shegar for the overnight halt.

Day 10: Drive back to SHIGATSE. 3-4 HRS.
Retrace the journey back to Shigatse with afternoon free for individual activities.

Day 11: Drive to LHASA. 3-4 HRS.
Drive today is much shorter than the incoming drive for we drive along the main highway from Shigatse. After three-four hours good driving we reach Lhasa for lunch. In the afternoon you can visit the market area and if you have any request for other short places of interest, please let us know.
