Blessed with beauty, Sikkim is the second smallest state of India bordered by Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet. The world’s third highest peak Kanchenjunga nestles on the border of Sikkim with Nepal. This thumb shaped state lies on Eastern Himalayas from longitude 88 degree 03'40" to 88 degree 57'19" East and from latitude 27 degree 03'47" to 28 degree 07'34" North. It comprises an area of 7096 kilometers square. The entire state is mountainous with altitude ranging from 300 to 8586 meters from sea level. There are 440 villages, eight towns and four districts in Sikkim. In terms of ethnicity, it majorly includes three ethnic groups Lepchas, Bhutias and Nepalis. The climate varies from cold temperate and alpine in North-East to sub-tropical in South. The ancient event recorded about Sikkim states, Buddhist Saint Guru Rinpoche visited the land around 9th century, introduced Buddhism and foretold the era of monarchy. “Land of orchids”, this state owns a high potential of advanced eco-tourism .Eco-tourism and adventure travel has become hottest buzzwords in tourism industry for last decade. Presence of mountains and cascading falls are additions to its appeal. It holds diversity in terms of floras and faunas forming the land as “Birdwatchers Paradise” as well. Sikkim would turn out to be a perfect destination for individuals willing to experience adventure/tranquility or nature love. Though not commercialized this state provides splendid journey with a blend of its culture, scenic beauty and biodiversity. One cannot expect sophisticated lifestyle of the people here but the warm hospitality and pleasing behavior of the people can surely be guaranteed.
