Geography of Bhutan

Bhutan is a sovereign nation in South Asia, surrounded by two sovereign countries The People’s Republic of China on the north and northwest and The Republic of India on the south, southwest and east. Bhutan has total borders of only 1,075 kms. Bhutan is also known as “Switzerland of Asia” as the shape, area and the mountainous location as comparable to that of Switzerland.

Bhutan is divided into 20 districts, 205 village blocks and several municipalities for the administrative purpose. Bhutan possess mountains over 7,000 m and the highest point of that is Gangkhar Puensum at the altitude of 7,570 m which is also categorized as the Highest Unclimbed Mountain.
